2009
University of Otago Distinguished Research Medal for 2009
Professor Cliff Abraham from the Department of Psychology has been awarded the university's most prestidgious research award. Professor Abraham's research is in the molecular and cellular mechnisms for memory storage. He also heads the Brain Health and Repair Research Group at Otago. Royal Society of New Zealand recognition
Dr Phil Boyd (Chemistry/NIWA) and
Professor Hamish Spencer (Zoology) have both been made Fellows of the Royal Society

Professor Katharine Dickinson (Botany/Ecology) has been awarded the New Zealand Ecological Scoiety's prestigious Te Tohu Taiao Award for Ecological Excellence. This award to Professor Dickinson was announced by the Society at the recent INTECOL meeting in Brisbane. The award is made annually to “recognise a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the study and application of ecological science.”
Professor Lloyd Davis (Science Communication) has been selected to join the Apple Distinguished Educator program, for the Class of 2009.
Andrew Wallace (Design Studies) and an associate have won a 2009 Eurobike Award at the Eurobike Trade Show in Germany. The fibre-optic bicycle tail-light has won an international design award at the world's largest bicycle trade fair.
Associate Professor Allan Blackman (Chemistry) is one of three winners for the 2009 Otago Teaching Excellence awards.
Emeritus Professor Gerry Carrington (Physics) has been given the Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Energy Award: High Achievement (2009) Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority, New Zealand
Dr David Hutchinson (Physics)has been invited to represent New Zealand at the World Economic Forum,
Meeting of the New Champions in China in September. This is the summer equivalent of the "Davos" meeting.
